If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your college applications, then this video from our friends at Coalition member University of Vermont is just what you need.

In it, Ryan Hargraves, UVM’s executive director of undergraduate admissions, shares his Top 5 tips (and a catchy rap!) to guide you on the path to application success — without all the stress!

Tip #1: Know Yourself
From a school’s size and location to its academic programs and student life opportunities, it’s important for you to identify what you’re looking for in a college or university.

Tip #2: Know Your Options
As you hone your list of colleges, be sure it includes ones for which you’re a “slam dunk” and others that are a bit of a reach.

Tip #3: Know the Process
It’s important for you to be aware of timing — early action, early decision, regular decision — and which application deadline option is right for you.

Tip #4: Use Your Voice
When it comes to writing your college essays, remember to use your words, your language, your phrases — and put that thesaurus down!

Tip #5: Get Fluent in Financial Aid
Understanding the ins and outs of financial aid is a must — like knowing which forms a school requires and learning what other aid may be available to you and your family.
